As I sit down to my computer on an average day in late 2012 and check my messages, sorting through the usual noise of ads and meems, I get to an ongoing conversation I’ve had with my good friend Adrian Hernandez.  It went something like this:

Adrian: Look at this video, I can’t believe how many views it has.
Jared: That’s actually pretty funny, but depressing all at the same time.
    Adrian: Over 100,000,000 views.
Jared: Yeah, and they barely even did anything.
Adrian: Man we could do something like that!
Jared: You know what the difference between them and us is? They are doing it, and we are sitting around talking about it.
Adrian: We should do something like one film a month as a challenge.
    Jared: That’s 12 films!
Adrian: And one for good luck? 13 films in 2013?
    Jared: 13 in 13?

So the seed was planted.  Adrian and I took the challenge. The rules were simple. We would release one film a month on the 13th day at 1:13pm, no matter what. Our 13th film would be our 48 Hour Film Festival entry.

But why do it? What’s the point and who cares? Well, really nobody cares but us but that’s not the point! It’s more of a challenge to see if we can do it.  I feel that it’s more constructive as an artist to create content rather than critique others’ work. It’s also easy to get comfortable with your craft, and I felt a challenge like this would be a great way for me to be resourceful and make great connections.

But enough from me, you be the judge. Here are my films in the order they were created. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did making them.

    ¡Pura vida!

What do you do with roughly 100 Nikon SB-800 flashes? Find a way to make them all go off at once of course! Since there were no tutorials online anywhere on how to do this, we had to make it up as we went along.

We succeeded in building the wall and making the flashes all fire at once. Was it a success? You be the judge. Check out the video and let us know what you think.

For a complete write-up on how we did it, including gear used and full res images, be sure to visit Rob McIver’s blog:

An apartment is a space. Your space. Soon I will be moving from The Greenehouse, never to return to this space. “The Apartment” captures this moment in time, allowing me to reflect on it in years to come.

Made this video for my sister while she was pregnant. Maybe she will look back on it one day and smile.

This is a cutdown of the original piece that has an interview where she completely breaks down. Figured she didn’t want that part in there :-)

Super props to Rob McIver for the still photos.

An iconic part to many events, Balloon Chain is strands of balloons that light up the night sky.

Returning as always to Burning Man, we have some great new technology we would love to share. The balloons are guaranteed to be there, but with your help, they can be bigger, and better, and great.

The campaign was a complete success, raising over $10,000! You can check it out here: http://kck.st/11ztlOK

“A Sleep Poem” was written for a young insomniac a few years ago. The poem’s author found inspiration in childhood memories of reading the brilliant, whimsical and magical verse of Dr. Seuss. The dreamlike quality of the poem is significantly enhanced by the heartfelt choreography and beautiful dancing.

Poem and original music by Gordon Kippola.

The beauty of the Balloon Chain Project is something that words can not describe. Even a still photo struggles to tell its story. It’s the simplicity of it that makes it so stunning, and this is what I set out to capture.

Shot at Burning Man 2013, Black Rock City Nevada. Equipment – Canon 5DMKIII, Philip Bloom Pocket Dolly, Miller DS10, and an intervalometer.

    Original music by Adrian Hernandez.
