In contrast to many documentaries about today’s military, Major Rockstar is about entertainment. Similar films in its genre focus on war, oppression, terror, and fear. This casts an unfortunate shadow on the image of our armed forces.

Audiences rarely get a glimpse of MOSs (Military Occupancy Skills) that focus on art and music. Many don’t even know of their existence, and perhaps this helps reinforce stereotypes and judgments.

Follow the cast of the United States Army Soldier Show on an incredible musical journey as they transform from everyday Soldiers to rock stars.

48 Hour Film Festival

Each year, filmmakers get together for a challenge. It goes something like this. On Friday night, you get a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre, all to include in your movie. 48 hours later, the movie must be complete. Then it will show at a local theater, usually in the next week.

Pantless Productions has participates in the 2011 and 2012 competitions, brining home the Audience Award, Best Writing, and Best Acting Ensemble awards! We won’t stop until we take first place for DC. Here are our entries for the past three years.

NCAA March Madness 2012

On a sunny afternoon, I was outside enjoying the recently warm spring weather when I got a phone call from an old producer friend at CBS College Sports Network. After some small talk, he asked me if I wanted to come out on the road with his team to edit “Missouri Confidential”. They were following the Missouri State basketball team on their trip to the NCAA Tournament, and needed to shoot and edit pieces for air as the stories developed.

Two days later I find myself in Columbia, Missouri. We shoot, we edit, we post. Our journey brought us to Omaha, Nebraska where Norfolk State would knock Missouri out of the race. We jumped on board with Norfolk State for a few days until they got put out by NC State. We then found ourselves in North Carolina, then Saint Louis where NC State would eventually loose to Florida. Game over for us.

It’s amazing how technology has allowed us to set up an edit in a hotel room. Plugging in HDMI to the flat screens on the wall gave us our program monitor, and a MacBook Pro with a G-Raid drive handled the rest. Try doing that 10 years ago!

Here are all of the pieces we were able to crank out in a two week time period. Most of these were produced, shot, edited and aired all within a 48 hour period. Crunch time.

From time to time, we get the opportunity to work with Simon and Schuster. With new authors and books constantly being released, you never know what the next assignment will be. This particular project teams up an unlikely candidate with a children’s book, and we were there to help produce the making of video.

Take a look at a special behind the scenes look at Michael Ian Black’s new children’s book, The Purple Kangaroo, with illustrator Peter Brown.

Destination Xterra

In 2005, we set out on a 2 month cross country journey in search of the Nissan Truck enthusiast. Destination Xterra was a show pilot conceptualized and funded entirely by Pantless Productions.

The show caught the attention of Nissan Marketing, and had a brief run on Lifeskool TV. While it never got developed in to a full series, it opened the doors for a lot of future productions.

Ray Moran Feature

SGM Retired Ray Moran and his wife Barbara have dedicated their lives to their country. Strength and support help them through the roughest of times, and now the legacy lives on through a new generation.

This feature was part of The United States Army Field Band Christmas Concert Series. It aired in the live show and will be broadcast in 2011 on AFN and The Pentagon Channel.

Just Stand Up
